Elishabawa The Federal High Court in Abuja has made a significant ruling in the case involving the former governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano. Obiano, who has been facing trial since his arraignment on January 24, is accused of nine charges related to an alleged misappropriation of N4 billion.In a recent development, the court dismissed an application brought by Obiano challenging the authority of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute him. This application, filed through his legal representative, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), argued that the EFCC lacked the jurisdiction to bring charges against him.
Furthermore, Obiano urged the court to quash the charges against him, contending that they constituted an abuse of the judicial process.However, the court’s decision to dismiss Obiano’s application signifies a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal proceedings. Obiano added that no prima facie case had been preferred against him. Ruling on the application on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo said the application lacked merit and deserved to be dismissed.
