Elishabawa Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Welcomes Chess-In-Slums Founder, Tunde Onakoya, Post Guinness World Record TriumphIn a momentous event at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu played host to Tunde Onakoya, the renowned Nigerian chess master, following his extraordinary feat in New York City, where he shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, clocking an impressive 60 hours.
The Governor pledged the state’s unwavering support for Onakoya’s mission, ensuring that every child in Lagos gets the chance to excel through chess. He affirmed, “Together with Tunde and the transformative power of Chess, we’ll work towards a future where every child in Lagos has the opportunity to realize their full potential. The state proudly supports his mission, purposefully providing resources to fuel this noble cause now and in the future.”
Onakoya, accompanied by his American counterpart Shawn Martinez, surpassed the previous record set by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad in 2018, solidifying their mark in history.
