Kano Emirship Tussle: Late Kano Emir Ado Bayero’s Daughter Zainab Speaks: “Learn from My Father”

Zainab Ado Bayero, daughter of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, has lauded her father as the longest-reigning emir in Kano’s history and urged future generations to learn from his numerous legacies amid the ongoing emirship power tussle in the state.

In a heartfelt television interview on TVC, Zainab Ado Bayero emphasized her father’s profound impact on the Kano emirate, describing his tenure as marked by significant regional, social, and political changes. Emir Ado Bayero, who passed away in 2014, held the throne for over half a century, becoming one of Kano’s most revered monarchs.
Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Zainab explained her motivation behind producing a documentary titled “My Father the Emir, A Portrait of Ado Bayero.” She expressed a deep love for history and the importance of documenting her father’s life for future generations.

“I’ve always been someone who loves history, even in school, going back in time and learning about so many people,” she said. “History can teach you so much… when you think about situations like this, you get to understand the human spirit and how people and choices can change the course of history.”

Zainab credited her mother for inspiring the documentary, noting that it aims to educate the public about the late emir’s remarkable and significant life. “He was the longest reigning monarch in the history of Kano,” she remarked. “Kano emirate, as you can see, is an incredible and iconic emirate in the history of Africa. So, having to tell the story of a man who made history in this incredible city was essential.”
