BREAKING: “I’ll Sack Non-Performing Ministers,” Tinubu Warns, Report Unveils Those Affected

On Thursday, May 30, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to remove any member of his cabinet who fails to meet the expectations of Nigerians. Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to delivering the best for the country. “I thank the cabinet members for their efforts, but I will relieve any of them of their duties anytime I feel that they are failing Nigerians,” Tinubu stated.

The President also called on state governments to prioritize the needs of local communities by ensuring accountability and effectiveness in the administration of local governments. He stressed the importance of local governments in delivering services to the people, highlighting that the wellbeing of residents in local communities is paramount.

“I will appeal to you to summon the governors. I am doing my very best to enhance the revenue base of the country. They must equally be sympathetic, and they must urgently consider the needs of the local people. People reside in the local communities. That is where they work, farm, and live. If the local governments are not effective in delivering services, as leaders, we must not hang on to the numbers,” Tinubu said. “Maybe we should look at recalibrating. What was good four years ago may not be good today. When we want the votes, we go to the locals; when we get the votes, we move to and focus on Abuja.” Addressing the importance of education in nation-building, Tinubu described the situation of out-of-school children in parts of Nigeria as unacceptable.

The President’s remarks have sparked reactions from Nigerians on social media, with many calling for specific ministers to be dismissed. Some urged the removal of Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, while others suggested that only the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has performed well. Calls were also made for the dismissal of the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. Human rights activist and Convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, recently released a list of the best and worst ministers in Tinubu’s administration. Adeyanju rated Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, as the best cabinet member, placing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as the second-best. In the worst category, Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, was ranked the lowest.
