Tinubu Reportedly Directs Sale Of Three Presidential Jets Over Cost Of Maintenance

According to the report, this is part of the cost-saving measures being adopted by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has initiated cost-saving measures, including the decision to sell three jets from the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF). This move comes in response to concerns over the escalating maintenance costs associated with the fleet.

Reports indicate that over the period from 2016 to 2023, approximately N80 billion was allocated for the maintenance of the PAF. President Tinubu expressed discomfort with the rising costs and directed the reduction of the fleet size, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on the nation.

The decision to sell off aircraft is motivated by the desire to curtail high maintenance expenses. President Tinubu is reportedly concerned about the frequency and cost of maintenance, prompting the selection of the most burdensome planes for disposal.

It is noted that a similar attempt was made during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to sell two planes from the fleet, but the plan did not materialize. Instead, efforts were made to explore alternative income-generating measures, such as chartering some of the aircraft to willing governors.

The reported financial situation in Kaduna StateThe Presidential Fleet comprises various aircraft types, including Boeing Business Jets, Gulfstream jets, Falcons, and helicopters. These aircraft serve a range of purposes, including official trips for the President, Vice President, governors, and other high-ranking government officials.

While details about the potential sale of specific aircraft, including the President’s Boeing Business Jet, remain uncertain, it is evident that the administration is committed to reducing maintenance costs and optimizing resources.

President Tinubu has also imposed a three-month travel ban on publicly funded foreign trips by Federal Government officials, effective from April 1, as part of broader cost-saving measures. These initiatives reflect the administration’s determination to enhance fiscal responsibility and efficiency in government spending.
